We Need More Humans System Requirements

The tiny PC spec, controller notes, and why dense maps still hitch.

System Requirements

We Need More Humans is a light Windows incremental with a heavy crowd sim. The Steam spec is tiny. The frame dips on a 27,000-person city are still real. This page copies the official requirements, then adds the practical notes from launch reviews so you do not buy a $5 game and fight the GPU anyway.

Official minimum (Steam, full game)

  • OS: Windows 10
  • Processor: 2.5 GHz
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Storage: 500 MB available space
  • Recommended OS: Windows 10 (no extra CPU/GPU line)

The demo listed 1 GB storage. The full build is the 500 MB line. No macOS, no Linux, no native mobile.

What the store also promises

  • Single-player only. No online sessions.
  • Full controller support including Xbox, DualShock, DualSense.
  • Steam Achievements (19) — achievements.
  • Steam Cloud.
  • Family Sharing.
  • Steam Deck compatibility: Unknown (even though May press mentioned Deck support).

If you are on Deck, it may just work because the spec is tiny and the pad is first-class for flying. The skill tree is the awkward part on a pad, not the beam. We will not stamp Verified on Valve’s behalf.

Practical performance

Launch reviews mention FPS loss when lots of humans suddenly spawn. That matches the dense-city screenshot at Population 27,684 and the press boast of 36,000 simulated people. A 4 GB laptop that meets minimum will still hitch there. It is usually playable hitching, not a crash. Lowering nothing in a missing graphics menu will not spawn settings Seafront did not ship.

If the game stutters:

  • Play windowed if your desktop compositor fights fullscreen.
  • Close browser-heavy backgrounds. 4 GB machines have no spare RAM for Chrome plus 30k entities.
  • Keep the saucer moving; standing still staring at a spawn wave feels worse. Late game build.

Input notes

Mouse is the comfortable tree inspector. Pad is the comfortable flyer. Keyboard-only is not documented as a unique overlay on the store page. See controls. Accessibility on the demo listed custom volume controls and no QTEs; the full game keeps the same low-APM vibe.

Install checklist

  1. Windows 10 or 11 PC, 4 GB RAM, a few hundred MB free.
  2. Steam account. Optional demo (app 4687980) if you want a trial.
  3. Full game (app 4436560). Intro sale was 30% off through 15 September 2026.
  4. Read getting started before you dump cash into preview nodes.

If a future update raises the spec (more maps, heavier crowds), it will be noted on release notes. Until then, the 2.5 GHz / 4 GB / 500 MB line is the contract.

Storage is not the story. The story is entity count. A machine that runs a 2D idle clicker at 200 FPS can still dip when We Need More Humans dumps a suburb of 5,675 red shirts or a city of 27,684 bodies onto one isometric tile set. That is the locations gallery, not a hidden 4K setting. Integrated graphics from the last decade should still run the desert and snow acts in getting started. The hitch, if it comes, arrives with Evolution crowds and neon gizmos. Plan for that instead of hunting a phantom GPU slider. If you are installing for a first Normal run, the desert and snow maps in getting started are the lightest load. Save worry for the 27k city on locations. A Steam Cloud save is tiny; the 500 MB disk line is the whole game plus leftovers, not a live-service cache. Controller users should budget patience for the skill tree cursor, not for extra USB adapters.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common questions.

Can it run on a toaster laptop?

If the toaster has Windows 10, 4 GB RAM, and 500 MB free, Steam says yes. Expect hitching on dense maps.

Is there a Mac version?

Not on the store page. Windows only.

Does it work on Steam Deck?

Compatibility is listed as unknown. Full controller support helps. The skill tree is fiddly on a pad.

How big is the download?

Full game 500 MB. Demo listed 1 GB. Tiny either way.

Is there multiplayer I need extra hardware for?

No. Single-player only. Review if you wanted a shared session — it is not here.
