Release Notes

We Need More Humans released on Steam on Tuesday, 1 September 2026. Seafront Games’ launch post called the preceding week “absolutely insane” and thanked people who had played the demo through Next Fest. This page is the 1.0 snapshot for the wiki: what you buy today, what changed versus May, and which of our guides assume the full build.

If you need the May–June demo patches, use the demo changelog. If you need “maybe later,” use the roadmap.

What 1.0 added over the demo

Matt Cole’s 14 June 2026 community post, on the Game Complete screen of the demo, listed the full-game targets:

  • More upgrades
  • More locations
  • More evolutions
  • Game modes
  • Customisation

Launch reviews and the Steam gallery confirm that list landed in some form. You now see neon cities, dense 27k crowds, black holes, crop-circle pads, cosmetic saucers, and extra modes that demo videos never reached. The beam, the linear skill tree, and the Evolution gag were already in the demo; 1.0 is more of that, not a reboot.

The walkthrough and locations pages are written against the full gallery, not against a 25-minute demo recording. If ImCade’s video ends before a neon city, keep playing.

Known launch-week complaints (not patched away in the notes we have)

We will not invent a 1.0.1 number that Steam has not posted. We will list what reviewers flagged in the first days, because they affect how you play:

  • Linear tree / “fake choices” — design, not a bug. See the review.
  • Vague tooltips and silent interactables — play around it with controls.
  • Endgame mop feels slow — how to complete.
  • FPS hitch when crowds spawn — expected on dense maps.
  • Controller + tree navigation — buy highlighted nodes.
  • One player reported money wiping each round; Matt replied that money should persist. If you reproduce a wipe, it is a bug.

When a numbered Steam news post drops, this section becomes a proper changelog. Until then, treat Steam’s news hub for app 4436560 as canonical.

Bundles and neighbouring games

At launch Steam showed bundles with other short incrementals, including Starvester, A Game About Feeding a Black Hole, and Gamblers Table. Those bundles are shop dressing, not required DLC. We Need More Humans is a complete short game without them. Genre context for the “is it a clone?” argument lives in the review.

Who this 1.0 build is for

If you 100%ed the demo: you will recognise the beam and then hit new maps and modes. Start at release notes (this page) then the late game build if your demo tree was already finished.

If you never touched the demo: ignore this history. Open getting started and play Normal.

Official URLs stay on the links hub. This wiki is unofficial.

For a first session after installing 1.0, ignore this history and open getting started. Come back here only if a mechanic on the walkthrough disagrees with a demo video, or if you are checking whether extra modes were actually in the box you bought. They were. Customisation was too — just not as a stat stick. The review is the place to argue whether that package is worth the intro sale; this page only dates it.
